So the link above is an article and video of a man named Eric Garner. This man has had a criminal history and edgily resisted arrest, and was choked out by a police officer. Many times he had claimed that he couldn’t breath, they called him an ambulance and sadly on the way to the hospital he died from cardiac arrest.
The question I would like to propose is, is this an act of police brutality. Now I know many people are going to watch this video instantly feel bad for the man who had lost his life and view the officers as monsters. However I would like to get people really thinking and viewing both sides before jumping to a bias opinion on this whole topic. This is a touchy subject cause many people can look at this and say that they could have went about it in a totally different way and that man didn’t need to die and he wasn’t a threat. But I would like to make the argument that officers are trained to protect the citizens, and themselves. If there is someone with a criminal record, resisting arrest, and not cooperating, and they face the consequences of being man handled and lose their life in the process, is it anyone’s fault but their own? I still need to do a lot of my research and get supporting facts to back up my argument. I just want to leave you with the question that if they break the law and continuously don’t cooperate, what do you expect the cops to do, would you be satisfied if they didn’t take any action at all as a so called criminal resisted arrest, would you be satisfied if they let this man walk away Scott free from the scene?
